Tithing.

[ 2 ] June 18, 2008 | Milan Ford

A friend of mine emailed me today about a friend of hers…
…who had some challenges with her husband regarding the importance of tithing.

She emailed me to see if I can help. Here’s what I sent back…

Tithing is important. For a number of reasons.

However – in this case – my recommendation to her would be a bit different. If she believes in the importance of tithing / and wants to try to influence her husband to do the same…

…I recommend her doing sort of a summer experiment.
Tell her to for the month of June / July / August…

…to take 10% of what she would like to give to God (out of her gross salary for the month) and do something special for her husband with it. It has to be good!

She has to spend the entire 10% on him (weekend trip / gift / etc.)
Tell her to do it both June and July.

Then in August – tell her not to do it.

If her husband (who probably will be looking forward to it) asks her why…tell her to tell him:

“…well I really didn’t see the point anymore!”

Should create some great conversations with him about tithing.
It is not a matter of money. But a matter of relationship.

Some topics are just best experienced…rather than taught.
Makes things easier to explain. Going deep on this one doesn’t always work.

Wow…what an experiment! I pray that it works. The intention is so on point, I pray the perception of it falls in line as well.
    Be blessed.

I thought by the reading of the word that you give from your heart what you will. Weather it be 5%, 10% or even 30%, as long as you are giving from your heart. So many preachers preach to give 10% but isn’t that the old law? When Jesus came in the new testament, we were asked to give from our heart right? It never tells us to give 10% of our gross so why do preachers consistently tell the people to give 10% of their gross instead of giving from the heart what they will. So many folks give 10% but only because it is told to them to do so and if not they will be cursed. That’s giving for the wrong reason. We as belivers should want to give from our heart whatever we are able to give willing and not be judged of told we will be cursed for not giving a certain amount. Please help me to understand the real truth in giving?
