Purple Cow Revisited.

[ 2 ] December 29, 2008 | Milan Ford

During the Christmas holiday break, thought I revisit Seth Godin’s Purple Cow. Just thought it be a great idea considering the book project I am wrapping up for next year.

Here’s an excerpt that will probably be a banner for me in 2009…

If being a Purple Cow is such an easy, effective way to break through the clutter, why doesn’t everyone do it? Why is it so hard to be Purple? Some folks would like you to believe that there are too few great ideas or that their product or their industry or their company can’t support a great idea.

This, of course, is nonsense.

The Cow is so rare…because people are afraid. If you remarkable, it’s likely that some people won’t like you. That’s part of the definition of remarkable. Nobody gets unanimous praise – ever. The best the timid can hope for is to be unnoticed.

Criticism comes to those…who stand out

In 2009, if you’re not being criticized regarding your work, chances are your work is not remarkable.

  1. Milan, I read this book about two years ago and had been meaning to pick it up again. Today, you have encouraged me to do so. I needed this reminder for the upcoming ministry year. Blessings on you, your family and your ministry,
