Play With A Full Deck.

[ 2 ] May 27, 2009 | Milan Ford

Got wind of a church the other day that is having some troubles with parking. Seems they’ve outgrown their current parking lot, and the neighboring retail community no longer wants to provide them weekend parking.

Although mostly embraced by inner-city churches, I simply adore the idea of parking decks.

Sometimes I just think there’s more in going up, than going out.
Less walking too.

I think that there are two things that keep churches from building up and not out…1) it’s cheaper to build out…without forward thinking and vision, most find it easier to just keep laying 8 inches of concrete as opposed to bearing the expense of steel reinforced concrete structures that go “UP” and not “OUT”…they never financially PLAN to build up.. 2) it takes a lot more to get the permits from the county to build a parking deck rather than a lot because they are considered a “structure”…and unless done well and given some character from the outside, they can be pretty unsightly.

totally agree Alex. only wish more would take the time to consider going up. could create the space needed to do other things with property.
