Open Door Policy.

[ 0 ] September 11, 2007 | Milan Ford

This past summer, I was blessed with the opportunity to join the Chick-fil-A team as a marketing director for several restaurants in the Dekalb County (Georgia) area. My first assignment: to visit the Chick-fil-A corporate office. Amazing.

It was great to see first-hand how this billion dollar corporation has maintained a commitment to value and demonstrate to others the principles of Christ Jesus. As I was walking through the building, I noticed something strange. No one had their (office) door closed.  No one.

Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, has encouraged all of his corporate employees to adopt an open door policy. No one is permitted (despite their title or position) to close their door. While on tour, I actually walked right in to his office.

Interruptions are allowed. They are actually encouraged. Makes it a little harder for work gossip to exist, doesn’t it? As I was leaving, I thought to myself: would the average church staff adopt such a policy?

Could be a great experiment.
