Inertia.

The following is an excerpt out of It’s Not My Fault, written by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.

“In the world of physics, inertia is the tendency for things to say the way they are. If you throw a baseball, it will go in the same direction unless some external force, like a bat, changes its direction. Another law of inertia that applies to change is this:

It takes more energy to get a stationary object moving than it does to change the direction of an object in motion.

You have to work harder to get a ball in the air than to change the direction of a moving ball.”

Cloud and Townsend describe our tendency to resist change as inertia.
And I must admit, regarding a few areas in my personal life, inertia has been a comfortable ally.

But no longer.
