Eli.
On yesterday, I was reading over 1 Samuel 3. A very familiar passage of scripture to many. I have always (like many young leaders) paid close attention to the behavior of Samuel on that night, and his pursuit after the voice and calling of God.
I never really paid much attention to Eli.
In fact, very few leaders do.
As it relates to this particular exchange between the two, many believe that Eli just represents an old system that Samuel was now being called out from under. A voice that Samuel (in our opinion) no longer needed to check in with.
But on yesterday, I saw Eli in a totally different light. So much so that I plan to dedicate a few weeks to studying up on him. As I talk with many young leaders today, I am convinced that many know so much, yet have served so very little.
Very few have ever embraced the process of ‘checking in with Eli’ – one that I believe insures that one’s calling is not birthed in rebellion, but birthed in revelation. A shared revelation.
