Church Drafting.
The Turner Network Television (TNT). One of the greatest gifts God has ever given to the Body of Christ. And all the non-premium movie cable buyers said {Amen}.
On last week, I was surprised to see that TNT strayed away from their usual schedule and brought back a pure classic: Days Of Thunder.
Tom Cruise.
NASCAR racing.
Wins big at the end.
One very critical scene.
Here’s The Scene: Tom Cruise, while at home with his girlfriend (played by Nicole Kidman), talks about the unusual, yet technique that helps most drivers win close races. This technique was called drafting.
When a race car gets directly behind another race car, the wind resistance usually created due to traveling at high speeds is greatly reduced. The race car traveling behind is able to conserve more energy and eventually pass the car it was following with ease.
Fact: Many church leaders get discouraged when they feel like they’re being drafted. They were once the leading car in a race, and now after several laps, the one who has been riding their tail, suddenly is passing them to win the race.
Let’s face it: it happens all the time. Churches draft each other.
Some for good and some for self.
The races are different at times. Some for membership. Some for press. Styles are drafted. Buildings are drafted. Conferences and events (sadly) are even drafted.
Small Advice: While churches are trying just to draft you…go draft another. No, not just another church. Go draft a totally different car. Here’s a few cars that are winning some great races:
Disney.
MTV.
Apple.
Facebook.
Google.
CNN.
Worst thing in the world is for a church to be racing towards the wrong finish line.

I don’t get it. I get Cruise, I get the drafting, I clearly get the draft of other churches, I’m Catholic, so AME, Baptists etc addressed the needs of AfrAm parishoners after drafting the Catholic church (that is not to say their needs were being met, hence the popularity)What’s up with the draft a totally different car? Meaning go break ground on something new? That isn’t drafting, that’s leading. Hook up with a commercial sponsor that is Christian friendly? What does the last paragraph have to do with what you were inferring earlier?
Thanx. I reading, but I’m not understanding you brother.
Great blog, it requires me to chew on it some. I think I am following the way it goes. Milan, you always plant seeds of knowledge in your readers.
hey Kevin – thanks for your comment bro – what i mean by drafting is that for the most part – we as church leaders are drafting the wrong cars.
our goal should not be racing other churches.
but rather racing other cars that our leading this generation now.
most of our churches have become to be carbon copies of another – producing very little.
if we begin to set our goals on racing on a totally different scale – we just may be able to bring about the results we desire to see.
hope that helps bro.
