Looking Back.

This week marks the third year anniversary of my blog, ThePewView.com.

Hard to believe that what was once just a hobby, has grown into a platform that helped launch my first book, secure my current role as Director of Marketing and Communications for one of the world’s largest online faith-based broadcasting portals, as well as provide an arm of support to several missionary organizations (for which I am most proud of).

Took some time out last night to read over my very first post; thought I’d share it with you today.

Post Title: Left. Left. Left Right Left.

I was walking my oldest daughter (Kayla) around our subdivision the other day (something I try to do often…it’s better than watching Barney!)

I noticed something. During the entire time we were walking…I didn’t have to give any major direction to her as to where we were headed. I simply held her hand.

And we walked.

We made turns together.
We even stopped together.

At the slightest tug, she was able to follow my lead. Ever wonder why our church praise and worship leaders never lead like that? Is it always necessary to create a military-style cadence for the congregation?

Hands Up.
Left.
Shout Out.
Left.
Clap Your Hands.
Left. Left, Right Left.

Let’s just imagine for a minute that at least 80 percent of our church congregations are made up of people who actually want to be there. And generally love the Lord. If that’s so, let’s just give them the benefit of the doubt.

Select a path (song), grap a hand…
…and just take a walk.

With hearts aligned with God and not receiving a rehearsed response, we may be surprised of what can be accomplished. More content.  Less hooks.

I think one of my mentors, Pastor Terrell Murphy, said it best:
“…Light yourself on fire and let them see you burn.”

So on next Sunday morning, if it seems like you preparing for an Iraqi convoy rather than the presence of God, go find your praise and worship leader, pull him or her over to the side, and simply whisper these words:

“Burn, baby burn.”

*Be sure to give an explanation.
That statement may sound a little odd to the average person.

Austin.

On next week, my wife and I will be spending a few days touring the city of Austin, Texas. Partly for vacation, but also for surveying. Austin is one of three major cities my wife and I have been researching for about two years now concerning something rather unique that God has impressed upon our hearts.

Can’t get into much detail just yet, but I would appreciate it if you lift us up from July 17th – 22nd as we walk the streets of Austin…and pray relentlessly for a Sandra Bullock sighting!
