40.

[ 1 ] April 4, 2008 | Milan Ford

Today is a special, yet solemn day. 40 years ago today, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed at the Lorainne Motel, located in Memphis, Tennessee.

I have always been somewhat fond of the number 40; not simply because I use it as a nickname…

…but also because it probably takes many number of years for a new generation to change and correct the mistakes of a previous one. I assume it takes just as long to stand and build upon its successes.

I wonder: 40 years from now, what kind of successes and mistakes will today’s generation of church leaders leave for the next? Hope I’m around to see it…

No wonder you liked my post – it’s your nickname! Interesting though to see that we are having similar thoughts. Also makes me wonder what prejudices do we blindly hold onto today… which peoples are we subjugating… that will have to be righted in another 40 years? Or do we pretend that we are finally fully enlightened. (snicker)
