Speed Bumps.

[ 4 ] February 11, 2009

I’ve always found speed bumps very interesting. Well maybe not the speed bumps themselves. But rather our reaction to them.

There are some of us (as leaders) who refuse to acknowledge their purpose. We just simply drive around them, in an effort to (selfishly) maintain our current speed.

There are some of us (as leaders) who will acknowledge their purpose, but refuse to slow down when approaching them, causing everyone who is riding with us to be prepared for a brief, yet uncomfortable experience.

However, there are a few of us (as leaders) who will not only acknowledge the purpose of a speed bump, but will decrease our pace when approaching it.

And when finally coming face to face with it, drive over it, instead of around it.

Leaders like this understand that speed bumps are (at times) an important part of every journey. Not simply as a checkpoint for speed, but to insure that everyone we are traveling with, or around…

…will remain as safe as possible.
